INSPECTIONS IN PRACTICE

Pedro, Aspre 35i PRE-PURCHASE SURVEY 5/2026

Observational Summary:
The vessel is clean and well-maintained for its age. The hull shows expected cosmetic wear and paint scuffs. Mechanical systems are generally sound; the engine room is dry with no major leaks detected. Interiors are tidy and professionally kept. Navigation electronics are current. Through-hull fittings show signs of corrosion requiring attention during the next service. Some valves remain difficult to access, necessitating a specific check. A hydraulic steering system leak is currently undergoing repair to ensure full operational safety and reliability.

Hallberg Rassy 352 SPECIAL SURVEY 3/2026, Technical Report

OBJECTIVE: Assessment of rudder hairline cracks: Determine if fractures are superficial or structural.
TECHNICAL OBSERVATIONS: Symmetrical cracking observed on both sides of the rudder blade (Image 1). Locations align with internal bronze reinforcement plates typical for this model. No moisture detected; the rudder dried at the same rate as the hull after lifting (Image 2). Visual inspection alone cannot confirm core integrity.
ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS: Cracks likely caused by stress concentration at reinforcement points. Superficial filler cracks are cosmetic and require monitoring. Structural failure would be critical, risking rudder loss and total loss of steering at sea.
RECOMMENDATION: Localized removal of the surface layer over the affected area to verify structural soundness.
CONCLUSIONS: After surface removal (Images 3-6), cracks were confirmed to be confined to the filler material, aligning with manufacturer technical guidelines. Refinishing the surface layer is sufficient for repair.
